Mainly Photography but a little of everything at times

Christmas is a time for photography.

This was taken December 4th while my wife, my three daughters and myself put up our Christmas tree. All three girls had their cameras out and between us we took 600 plus photos in about 2 hours. We had a great night.

Christmas is a time for photography.

What a great time of year to be a photographer. Equipment is on sale. People want photos for their christmas cards. People want photos as gifts. Equipment is on sale. There are lots of christmas parties to photograph. There are even fund-raising charity auctions that you can use to display your wears. If I haven’t mentioned it, equipment is on sale. Even if you don’t celebrate christmas there are still things you can take advantage of as a photographer. There are lots of lights and christmas scenes to shoot.  Wintery scenes for those in the northern hemisphere and summer scene for those in the southern. There should be lots of kids on sugar highs that we can photograph. We might even get a few days off during the holidays which we can use to shoot. If we are lucky, someone might even give us some new gear for christmas. You might even get to give a few of your photos as gifts. Just remember to include your family in whatever you do over the holidays, photography is much more enjoyable when your whole family is involved.

Now if we could just the camera manufacturers to release their new stuff before the gift giving session. If we could move CES to November instead of January. We could get some new cool stuff for or before christmas, instead of getting gear that will be replaced just a few months later (maybe there is no fix for that however).

Also, try to remember those who aren’t as fortunate. Some of us have more than we realize and it is never bad to give back.

Anyway, that is it for this week. Short I know but, I still wanted to chat about it. Have a great holiday session and as always, happy shooting.

This was taken when Megan (the middle daughter), Jenna (youngest daughter) and myself went to the Cameron River for the afternoon a few weeks back. It is one of those wintery scene I had mentioned. I love to photograph flowing water and the snow and ice just add to the experience for me.

This is one of the photographs taken while Garry Kelly and myself took a trip on the highway to photograph some Buffalo. Garry drove some of the trails just off the highway and I took a few photos while there. My wife, Dale loves these types of shot.

  1. Amen Lee,

Really like that silky ice water; looks almost drinkable! Beautiful skies, beautiful people and beauty all around…almost makes you wish people would leave their xmas lights on all winter.

Good points about giving back too; I coupled in with the Aurora College to raise money for a secret santa charity fund by taking photos of people under the tree and my own print sales at a local arts fair- 10% of my sales went to the charity. The whole business program alone managed to raise over $600 to donate to those who are less fortunate this holiday season.
