Gatherall’s Whale and Bird watching boat tour – Newfoundland Trip 2010 – Part X
Yesterday was a full day. We were up early to prepare for our boat tour which would leave from Bay Bulls, just south of St. John’s. We went early, had a quick snack, visited the gift shop and I got to discuss where the best place was to be positioned on the boat for photography. Then we were off for another great trip, one and a half to two hours of whales and birds and some good entertainment. Gatherall’s Catamaran is pretty fast so, if you could see whales on the horizon Gatherall’s could get you to them quickly. They made sure we got what we paid for. We saw three different types of whales and countless seabirds, including thousands of puffins. I found it interesting that a lot of the birds would fly just above the water’s surface. So close that their wings would splash in the water as they flew. It was well worth the trip and the amount of room the Gatherall’s boat provided made carrying all my camera equipment a breeze. They did a great job. After leaving Bay Bulls we stopped in the Goulds to visit some old friends and then we were off to find the Quidi Vidi Battery (which appears to be closed). We went back to Signal Hill for a quick visit and then back to our house for dinner and a relaxing evening. So, what can I say. If you are in this area go to Bay Bulls and look for the big blue building (see below), book a tour there and the Gatherall’s people will look after you. Money well spent. As for the photos, well I took about 400 and below is a small sample of those. As I always say in closing, thanks for dropping by and Happy Shooting.
