Aviva Community Fund – NWT SPCA – HUB International

with 4 comments

If you are from the Northwest Territories and have been living under a rock, you may not have heard of the Aviva Community Fund. Aviva, the Insurance Company, gives money to a variety of different projects, those funds total in the millions of dollars. Aviva states that it is about community support and supporting what is important to you. It is a great fund and it helps great causes. The causes are actually voted on by the public. This year one of the winners was local (to those of us in Yellowknife). It is the NWT SPCA and they were given $ 300,000.00 from the Aviva Community Fund. Those dollars along with thousands of other donations will be used to build a much-needed shelter for animals in the area. Congratulations NWT SPCA. So, what does this have to do with my little photography blog you ask? Well, today I was asked by our local HUB International Limited office to photograph the cheque from Aviva being presented to the NWT SPCA. I was pleased to be asked but, also a little apprehensive. Event photography is not really my strong suit, I was concerned that they may not get the photos they would like. However, I could not turn down the opportunity to photograph the event. It has been pretty big news here in Yellowknife. How could I pass this up? I took some time to prepare and off I went. The presentation would be done in the lobby of the Coast Fraser Tower (a very pet friendly and SPCA friendly Hotel here in Yellowknife). It was a great time and I even got to spend some time talking with quite a few of the attendees. It was nice to be asked by HUB to do the event. I know their Branch Manager very well and she has been a good supporter of my photography work for a while. Like Aviva, HUB International Limited also likes to support the communities where they work. They have a program call HUB G.I.V.E.S. and this program is a charitable and community giving one which allows HUB Employees to donate their time and services to community projects that they care about. There were two HUB Employees helping at the event today. Oh and if you are wondering about G.I.V.E.S., well it stands for Give, Invest, Volunteer, Engage, Serve. So there is a quick word on what took up some of my afternoon. I am lucky that my office allows me to give my time to some of these causes as well. Thanks to everyone involved, great job and for those of you visiting here, as always thanks for stopping by and Happy Shooting.

And the reason why everyone does all this great work;
