Remembrance Day 2011

with one comment

I don’t have a lot of words to write today, it is Remembrance Day 2011. I would like us all to take time to remember and thank all of those who have served and are serving our great Nation. For the Fallen, a special thanks and you will always be remembered.

Here a few words to help us remember;

“Of the 105,210 members of the British forces of the First World War who have no known graves, 19,660 were Canadian. The names of these men are inscribed on memorials in Canada and Europe, 11,285 are on the Vimy Memorial, and 6,994 on the Commonwealth Memorial at the Menin Gate in Ypres. On the Newfoundland memorial at Beaumont Hamel are the names of 814 Newfoundlanders who have no known grave.  – VALOUR REMEMBERED”; Canada and the First World War, Veterans Affairs Publication, 1982

I am proud to say thank Kyla, my oldest Daughter, has visited all three of the above mentioned sites.

 They went with songs to the battle,they were young.                                                                                                        Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.                                                                                                                They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,                                                                                                  They fell with their faces to the foe.

 They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:                                                                                                      Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.                                                                                                              At the going down of the sun and in the morning,                                                                                                                    We will remember them.
